Homoeopathic Management of Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)

Dr. Christian Fredrich Samuel Hahnemann ,the father of Homoeopathy has extended its efficacy in treating the diseases from urinary tract infection also. The challenging aspect in the life of  postpartum women or pregnant women is overcoming from either upper urinary tract infection ie., acute pyelonephritis or lower urinary tract infection like cystitis.

Urinary tract infection is defined as the presence of at least one hundred thousand organisms per milliliter of urine in an asymptomatic patient or more than hundred organisms per milliliter of urine with pyuria in a symptomatic patient.
The fact says that about 2 - 4% women develop urinary tract infection in the postpartum period. Bacteria like normal bowel flora including E.coli and Klevsiella, Proteus and Enterobacter species. The major factor which aids to the causation of postpartum UTI is the hypotonicity in bladder and lower urinary tract following immediately after delivery which results in residual urine and reflex. The other concurrent factors include birth trauma, cauterization, conduction anesthesia, frequent pelvic examinations, etc.

The postpartum women complaining UTI would have increased frequency and urgency of urination, urinary retention, pain and burning during urination, retro public or supra pubic pain after urination, fever with chills are rigors and abdominal pains.


Homoeopathic medicines for Urinary Tract Infections (postpartum women)

Apis Melifica

Incontinence of urine; frequent, painful, scanty, bloody urination with last drops burnt and smart; burning and soreness while urinating; suppressed high colored urine loaded with casts; burning stinging pain migrating from one part to anther; cannot retain the urine for a moment even and when passed scalds severely.

Equisetum hyemale

Sever dull pain in the bladder due to distention; not ameliorated by urination; urine flows only drop by drop; frequent urging to urinate with intolerable pain at the cessation of urination; sharp burning cutting pain in urethra while urinating; albuminuria with involuntary urination; retention and disuria during pregnancy and after delivery; pain in the region of right kidney extending to lower abdomen; right lumbar region pain with increased desire to micturate; aggravation - cessation of urination, pressure, touch, sitting down.; amelioration - afternoon, from lying down.

Kreosotum

Violent itching of vulva and vagina aggravated by urination; smarting and burning pain during and after diminished urination with frequent urging at night; hurries when gets desire to urinate; chestnut brown or turbid urine with white sediment and fetid odor; incontinence of urine; can not get out of the bed and can urinate only while lying; involuntary urination on coughing.

Cantharis

Constant urging to urinate before during and after urination; tenesmus; urination drop by drop and divided stream; distress in the neck of the bladder with cystitis associated with chills and fever; cutting and burning pain in the renal region with painful urging to urinate; hematuria; pain in supra pubic region aggravated after drinking water; intense burning in urethra ameliorated lying on back and aggravated with motion.

Sarasaparilla officianalis

Severe unbearable pain at the cessation of urination; dribbling of urine while sitting, passing better while standing; tenesmus of bladder; pain at the urinary meatus with hematuria.
